Backend Engineer

About the team
We're looking for a Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain the server-side systems behind our products. You'll own services end to end — from database schema to API design to deployment — and work closely with frontend, product, and infrastructure teammates to ship reliable, well-tested features. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: your decisions about data models, performance, and architecture will shape how the platform grows. We work remotely across several time zones and value clear written communication, pragmatic engineering, and clean, maintainable code.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and RESTful/GraphQL APIs
- Model and optimize relational databases (PostgreSQL) and manage migrations
- Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code
- Integrate third-party services, payment providers, and internal systems
- Improve performance, reliability, and security across our services
- Collaborate with frontend and product teammates on new features
- Participate in code reviews and help uphold engineering standards
- Monitor, debug, and resolve issues in production
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of professional backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (Node.js, Python, Go, or Java)
- Solid experience with relational databases and SQL
- Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST and/or GraphQL)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Docker
- Understanding of authentication, security, and data-protection best practices
- Comfortable with Git and collaborative workflows
- Strong written communication and the ability to work independently in a remote team
- Nice-to-haves (you can add to Requirements or drop into "About the role"): experience with CI/CD pipelines, message queues (Kafka/RabbitMQ), microservices, or Kubernetes
